This boozy hot chocolate recipe is the perfect nightcap on a cold evening. Made with creme de menthe, the mint flavor and chocolate are the perfect pair!
This post is brought to you in partnership with Rodelle. All thoughts and opinions are my own, including my love for all things Rodelle.
When it’s cold outside, I want to get warm fast and the easiest way to do that is a cup of boozy hot chocolate.
Not only do you get the heat from the warmed milk, you also get a special extra bit of warmth from the creme de menthe. Win, win on a cold fall or winter day.
Making homemade hot chocolate is way easier than most people expect. You only need 3-4 ingredients and a small pot. So why not enjoy a cup today?
Boozy Mint Hot Chocolate
To get started warm up milk in a small pot. You want to get to boiling but you *don’t* want to burn it so set the heat to low. If you’re making a single serving this will only take a few minutes.
When you’re milk is warm, remove the pot from the heat and add the baking cocoa.
I have been using Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa for years and it’s hands down my favorite. Rodelle also makes an organic version if that’s your cup of tea! (Or hot chocolate!)
I use the Rodelle gourmet baking cocoa for all of my chocolatey baked goods and sweet chocolate treats.
Looking for a milkshake? Try my bourbon chocolate milkshake. Looking for cookies? Try my double peppermint chocolate chip cookies or my sea salt double chocolate cookies.
I digress. Back to the hot chocolate recipe.
When you add the baking cocoa also had a pinch of salt. Whisk everything really, really good – until there are no clumps in the baking cocoa.
Now you’re ready for the fun part. The boozy, mint part of this boozy mint hot chocolate recipe.
You may have been wondering why I didn’t add sugar to my recipe. It’s because creme de menthe is a very sweet liqueur. And it’s definitely sweet enough to flavor this drink.
Add the creme de menthe to the bottom of a mug and then poor the hot chocolate on top. Use a spoon to mix the minty liqueur in well.
Garnish with mint leaves, marshmallows, or whipped cream. Or all 3! Why not treat yourself on a cold day?!
Serve it alongside delicious holiday appetizers. Try it with my Christmas wreath cheese ball recipe, antipasto skewers, or this amazing baked goat cheese with roasted cranberries.

Hi Cathy. Cocoa powder has about 12 mg of caffeine for every tablespoon.
